Virginia Sales Tax Holiday – August 7-9
If you’re planning to do some back-to-school shopping this weekend, you’ll have a few extra savings: Virginia is having it’s annual Sales Tax Holiday on clothing and school supplies from August 7 to 9.
A few guidelines:
- The sales tax exemption applies to clothing items under $100 and school supplies under $20. Some retailers extend the savings to other items.
- Virginia publishes a list of eligible clothing and school supplies. Sadly, computers are not included.
- There is also a list of FAQ, which addresses issues like orders over the internet.
And a tip:
- If you really want to bargain-hunt, make sure to purchase items that are already on a good sale! The sales tax holiday only gets you about 5% off. Lots of retailers will try to exploit this by NOT having their best sales this weekend, assuming that consumers will be more willing to buy because of the tax holiday.
