Free Milk with Cereal Purchase at Safeway

safeway

I’m hearing multiple reports of a great unadvertised deal on milk at Safeway this week.  If you buy 3-5 Big G (General Mills) cereals, a Catalina coupon will print out for up to $4.50 off a gallon of milk.  Buy 6-8 Big G cereals and you’ll get two coupons.  There are some great deals on cereal this week at Safeway, so this would be a great time to stock up!

Check out Gina’s post at Moneywise Moms to see how she got 3 boxes of (healthy!) cereal and two gallons of milk for $2.23.  She also has some coupon match-ups for other GM cereals.

Attention Safeway Shoppers!

Good news for Safeway shoppers: there are two new ways to load coupons onto your Safeway Club card!

shortcutsShortcuts and Cellfire are sites that will allow you to load manufacturer’s coupons directly onto your Safeway Club card, similar to P&G eSaver.  When you purchase these items at Safeway, the discount is applied automatically—no need to clip coupons!

cellfireI have never used either of these sites before—Safeway is the first store that I know of in the DC area to partner with them—but I have registered for both and plan to try them out in the next few days.  When registering, you’ll need your Safeway Club card number.

I’ve done a little research and here are a few tips that I have learned about e-coupons:

  • They don’t double.  And most are not very high-value so you’ll need to combine them with a pretty good sale to get a real bargain.
  • You can’t unload them from your card until you either use them or they expire.
  • There is much debate over whether you can stack these coupons with paper coupons. It appears that it is technically possible to do so, but whether it is ethical is a more complicated question.  Southern Savers, Mommy Snacks, and The Thrifty Mama have all discussed the issue at some length.  I think that my policy here will be to list both coupons in deals posts, but not to suggest that you use both at the same time.

Does anyone else have any advice for a newbie on using e-coupons?  Please share it in the comments.
